The Meteors
THE METEORS
The Meteors are an influential English band formed in 1980 who are widely considered the pioneers and creators of the psychobilly genre. Born in London, they combined the frantic energy of punk rock with classic rockabilly and layered it with a tongue-in-cheek obsession with horror movies, death, and cartoonish violence. Shunted from the neo-rockabilly scene for being too "spooky and mean," they forged their own path. Their trademark style features raw, twangy guitar, slapping upright bass, and echo-drenched, mock-scary lyrics. The group was founded by guitarist and vocalist P. Paul Fenech, who remains the only constant member and driving force behind the band throughout dozens of lineup changes.
