Among Wolves
The seeds of death were planted in Salem, Utah in 2021 as a new project from guitarist Conner Thomas (Element Nine, Seamönster), and in 2022 Kaden Hunsaker (Stasis) and Alec Lowe (Telesomniac, Heilung) joined, providing vocals/guitar and drums, respectively. Performing a uniquely ambitious style of proggy melodic death metal, Among Wolves quickly took the Utah metal scene by storm. In November of 2022, they released their debut EP, Ephemeral, and in early 2023, bassist Connor Martin (Verdant, Comanche!) joined the group. Now, Among Wolves has risen as one of Utah's most electrifying young bands, and performs regularly to enraptured audiences in the Salt Lake and Utah Valleys.
Castrati
Castrati takes a novel approach to instrumental prog metal. Based out of Redmond, WA this three-piece act delivers a massive sound that when peeled back provides a level of complexity not often seen in power trios. With influences ranging from Tool to Fleetwood Mac and Periphery to John Coltrane, Castrati offers a diverse soundscape that is approachable to lovers of just about every genre. In their debut, self-titled, album Castrati deviates from the standard progressive formula of providing a master class in technique and relentless shredding. While staples of the genre such as long complex arrangements, odd time signatures, and plenty of hard-hitting riffs are abundant, Castrati separates themselves by presenting music that is emotionally compelling through rich melodic content and intricately interwoven part writing. Whether it is the relentless pulse of Full Circle, the ambient post-rock inspired textures of Dunes, or the haunting driving force behind Blood Moon Envy Castrati brings a breath of fresh air to heavy instrumental music.
