Vandoliers
Vandoliers
An alt-country band with punk roots, Vandoliers formed in 2015, bringing together a group of Dallas-Fort Worth musicians who'd already logged more than a decade in their own punk and folk bands. Together, the guys make a different sound, mixing raw, rough-edged roots music with the focused, fiery storytelling of frontman Joshua Fleming.

"We wanted to approach country music from a rock perspective," says Fleming, who fills the band's debut, Ameri-Kinda, with anthems about hitting the highway, draining beer bottles, rallying against your opponents and, occasionally, dropping acid. Behind him, the guys kick up plenty of fast-moving dust, filling the songs with train beats, gang vocals, blasts of brass and bursts of guitar.

Rounded out by bassist Mark Moncrieff, drummer Guyton Sanders, fiddler Travis Curry, electric guitarist Dustin Fleming and multi-instrumentalist Cory Graves, Vandoliers pay tribute to Texas by putting their own spin on the state's musical history. Ameri-Kinda is exactly what its title suggests: a twist on a familiar sound, delivered with a wink of the eye and a bang of the head. It's twang and tattoos, grit and guitars, honky-tonk and horns, Tejano and Telecasters. It's Vandoliers.

We went to various liberal arts colleges, got random odd jobs, and now do this I guess.
Twang Junkies
The New Age Outlaw Garrett Whitney
Garrett Whitney and the Outlaw Gruntry Band are the hypothetical result of a one night stand between Seattle, WA and Austin, TX. Meshing the influences of grunge, outlaw country and classic rock into what they call "Gruntry music," the band stands out amongst other acts in the pacific northwest. Featuring experienced musicians well versed in metal, hard rock, classic rock, and classic country, the band delivers stunning live performances that combine the bands original material with unique takes on covers by artists such as Waylon Jennings, David Allan Coe, Guns N Roses, The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, and Tom Petty.
The groups original songs are penned by vocalist and guitar player Garrett Whitney who has a knack of combing edgy, sincere, brash, humorous, and honest stories with a pop sensibility. The songs are brought to life by the incredible flavoring of lead guitarist JT Phillips whose use of the acoustic guitar combined with his mass array of effects pedals result in a country/blues based psychedelic eruption of sound. The songs are pounded and shaped by the driving consistency of the bands most metal element, Jarratt Van Dyke on drums. Adding the bottom end to this exciting group is scene veteran Dan Allen, whose tasty sense of the bass guitar add the groove to the gruntry sound.
From soft, soulful ballads to heart racing rockers, Garrett Whitney and the Outlaw Gruntry Band deliver a unique yet highly palatable taste to a newly emerging resurgence of classic country music.
